# Responsible Gaming

> HoodShot is non-custodial and provably fair, but it is still gambling with a house edge. Play with money you can afford to lose.

HoodShot is designed to be fair and transparent, but it is still gambling. Every game carries a **5% house edge**, which means that over time, on average, the house wins. Fairness guarantees the odds are exactly what we state, not that you will come out ahead.

## Play safely

* **Only stake what you can afford to lose.** Treat it as entertainment spending, not investment.
* **Set your own limits** before you start, on time and on amount, and hold to them.
* **Do not chase losses.** Each bet is independent; a losing streak does not make the next bet "due" to win. The odds are identical every time.
* **Take breaks.** Because you self-custody, there is no cooling-off toggle we can flip for you. Stepping away is your tool.

## What being non-custodial changes

HoodShot never holds your funds, so there is no house account to freeze and no support team that can reverse a bet or claw back a loss. That control is yours, which also means the discipline is yours.

If gambling stops being fun or starts affecting your finances or wellbeing, stop and seek support. Resources like [BeGambleAware](https://www.begambleaware.org) and the [National Council on Problem Gambling](https://www.ncpgambling.org) (call or text 1-800-522-4700) offer free, confidential help.
